@Rata4You The building did have sprinklers, but they didn't help much because the fire started outside, and then moved into the attic, where there were no sprinklers.

In Vancouver you can´t even build houses without sprinker systems. It´s weird how Calgary, a modern city, would allow a building to be built without sprinklers. I suppose developers thrive under conservative govts, not giving a damn about safety.
Oh well, glad I don´t live in such a dump.
