This Habitat for Humanity "deconstruction" video demonstrates how to remove interior and exterior doors with frames. Doors with frames are significantly easier to sell in the Habitat stores, and they command a much better price. Whenever possible, doors should be removed with frames, rather than "loose." The doors remain in the frame, and the unit is removed as a "pre-hung" assembly. The required tools are: hammer, pry-bar (flat bar) and a sawzall.
When cutting down along the sides of the door frame, try to cut as close as possible to the frame. This will leave the shortest possible nail stubs and thus reduce the subsequent risk of a hand (or clothing) snag.
The primary safety issue is possible injury from the power saw.
The average time to remove an interior door (one person, working alone) is ~5 minutes. If available, a second person can begin by removing all the door casings in the house, while the other worker follows with the saw.
Light doors can be carried off site by one person. Heavier door units require two people.
