@ken162008 I understand what you're saying. The actual System of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (Which descended from Kodokan Judo which descended from Japanese JuJutsu) actually does have stand up Self-Defense Techniques as well. infact, these stand up techs are the first thing taught to a beginner when they enter a BJJ School. The Gracies were simply showing that most fighters were clueless when a fight went to the ground not that ground fighting was the best. We all know that no art is the best.
@jujutsu987 You are right but understand what im trying to say the Gracies sed quot on quot That BJJ is best, they are making it seem like learning a def Martial arts besides from BJJ it is not good. Now Bruce knew that when you do Martial arts that you have to use the whole aspects of body knot just legs arms and yes I kwow hes Martial arts back grown he knew lot a about the grown. But do the Gracies know any thing about fighting with out going to the ground? NO i dont believe they do!
Also, Bruce Lee's Very first Student & Assistant Instructor in America (Jesse Glover) Was a Champion Judo Player and Taught Bruce Judo. Bruce Lee Loved Grappling & He Loved Striking. As a matter of fact, he was Quoted as saying " If A person were to Master Judo & Boxing. he would be unbeatable"
@ken162008 Bruce Lee, if he were alive, would've been learning Jiu-Jitsu as well. His top student Dan Inosanto is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as a lot of other Jeet Kune Do Big wigs (Paul Vunak, Burton Richardson, Etc). Bruce didn't criticize any art, he learned them. He himself Learned JuJutsu extensively under Wally Jay, In addition to Judo under Gene Lebell & Hayward Nishioka as well as Hapkido under Ji Han Jae. He knew the value of grappling and incorporated it in his JKD.
@jujutsu987 You are right in some aspects but now every body is now learnig the jiu-jitsu way and excluding the other ways of leaning of Martial arts nobodys taking time and learning stand up as they say MMA. Dont get me wrong I think the way Gracies way is way to learn but you also have know how to stike. There way is very effective bbut was they way realy tested? Bruce lee for exsample he would made fool out of the Gracies if he was stil alive. To be a good fighter you have to be wel r
@ken162008 The Gracies proved one point early on; that most of the time, we all end up on the ground during a tussle and you better know how to handle yourself once you go there. Back then most Martial artist (With the exception of Judo Players & Wrestlers) looked down on the grappling arts and payed the price when they faced the Brazilians or any other person who had knowledge of ground fighting. Now you see people incorporating ground fighting into thier systems. This is due to the Gracies.
@ken162008 To Me...Nothing but the names. They both employ similar Grappling & Pinning Manuevers & They both require mental toughness to endure the workouts. This is just my basic humble opinion of course.
