The worlds oldest recorded and longest established Sporting Event since 1673, The Antient Scorton Silver Arrow, celebrated the 300th anniversary in its 336th year. Channel 5 TV featured a 'dummy' re-run demostrated here by a few of the Members of the Society of Archers.

  • Some deformed skeletons where found here in England a while back. Analysis showed that they had extensive arthritis on their left elbow and their right shoulder warped from excessive muscle mass! Apparently, boys during the middle ages were given bows and those who excelled from the beginning where trained over many years to become archers and it was that training which caused the deformations... Which is understandable as some of the long bows had a draw strength of around 600lbs!

  • Thanks for showing this - Antient Silver Arrow of old England is a legend here in the States. How you longbow guys can even reach 100 yards with your 'bent wood sticks' is amazing and then to hit a 3 inch black spot. Long may the Worlds oldest recorded sporting contest continue. Nighnoon Archer (compound!)

  • Excellent - always wanted to see 'the black spot' - how anyon can hit it with a bow and arrow at 100 yards is amazing! Great!
