Alex Lifeson inspired me to play many different styles of music. The nylon string classical guitar, a hand-made Manfred Brauer, is one that I only play when my fingernails grow to a certain length (and don't break). I expect a broken nail anyday now, so I play while I can.

Farewell to Kings and Dee are very fundamental 'classical' guitar pieces and most players are familiar with them. This is a great way to compare musicians against the original recordings.

Many have commented on some of my videos of me playing this nylon string with a pick, something I do when the nails are not full or some are broken, so I wanted to take time to record while I have nails... they never last, get broken at work.

If you check my 'blue' guitar it has holes dug into the surface below the pickups, from my fingernails. A sacrifice is made from one guitar for another.

  • I find the technical precision of this play interesting.

It would be nice to have more comments in the "About This Video" part. Why are you playing this ? is the song from a book or so ? you'r referring to Alex ?

  • Notes are upgraded. Alexis Nicole (my daughter) was named after Alex Lifeson, since he was studied heavily for years before Lex was born. She's 13 now...

  • I have nothing but admiration for anyone who is skilled in classical or any other genre - and fella, are you ever skilled - bravo!

  • Whoa That guitar sounds amazing, Im not surprised it's hand made. Manfred Brauer? I will look it up. Have a look at my AFTK cover if ya like.

  • Fantastic, really enjoyed your playing, and you've inspired me to learn the piece.

  • Awesome! I don't get some of the negative comments on here. You're a great guitarist - keep doing what you love!

  • @ediek915 lets hear it from you then, maybe the chords are not fingerbreaking (they are not) but to play legato like this dude, is quite an achievement. dont be negative man

  • well done, however the second chord (D) is played in the first position, not on the 5th on the A string, anyway, keep up that playing, because you are still ahead of me :)

  • Not bad

  • thats pretty impressive how ur switchin playin the bass part in the intro too
