Most modern historians today agree that the Dark Ages were in fact not Dark at all, instead they were actually quite Light in terms of technology, prosperity and the like... of course one should not forget the great plague and all the disastrous events that took place, but often these were followed by far better times.

I completely agree that it was probably terrible in ways we could not even imagine, but the program makes a great deal of saying how horrible this period was in comparison with the age before it and this might not be as "real" as the program wants it to appear.
