Written by Robert B. & Richard M. Sherman, it was released in December 1960 by Rockabilly singer, Johnny Burnette. There was also a famous number 1 cover version in 1974 by Ringo Starr.

This superb perfomance of the song by Victor Sylester, was released on the Columbia label in 1961 as a quickstep. I love the orchestration of this version - just perfect for dancing to!

The record is a little crackly now, I'm afraid, but I hope it doesn't spoil your enjoyment too much!

  • Hey, Have seen many dance records in the charity shops but just ignored them. They do sound great, I will be buying some in the future. Thanks for posting and introducing us to this type of music which i am sure has been forgotten by most.

  • @sablestable Thank you for the kind words. I was introduced to this type of music when I was given an LP of ballroom music a few years ago and since then I've been looking around charity shops and boot sales, quite successfully as not many people seem to collect it!

  • This is not what I know of the song. It was first done in a regional market, around Chicao by a group from South Bend, IN. I have the 45. It is in storage. It was their only hit. I think they were called ...(something) and the Redcoats. They were the Insects, and they did a version with Kenny Carlton. The guy on Keyboards was Billy Warren, a Potawatomi Native American. Anybody else remember them? What happened to the group? They started in the late 50's
