One of the greatest songs ever. From the greatest band ever. Jeff Lynne changed the way I listened to music. Rock and roll was never the same for me. The layers, the textures, and the ecclectic way he blended genres totally rocked my world! Love these guys!

I thought I heard one time that Jeff Lynne says he wrote the song about the loss of love. If you listen to many of his lyrics, they often speak of a break up or a lover leaving. I've always interpreted this song as a lament for a lost love. Not sure what the backing lyrics are.
