I own a canon 7d, but would love one of these cameras. I'm not a huge fan of crazy color grading or the incredibly sharp "video" look. However being able to shoot after the sun is down on a $100 f1.8 has proven helpful.

@airscrew1 Film will never die, the human eye, as it has so many times before, will continue to transform however.
Some of the new Red One stuff, with 7x the resolution of HD, can do a lot of things we wished film could. Lighting video with candlelight and actually having it look WARM is now something that is totally possible. In another 10 years, who knows what kind of technology we'll be working with.

I used to shoot with two Arriflex cameras. A 16BL and a 16ST. I'd still go for the 16ST if I wanted another because that can be converted to Super 16 whereas the BL can't. I agree with another comment that film will never die. It is just too good and digital cannot touch it. I say that for stills as well. Hasselblads and other larger format cameras are so simple compared to modern digital cameras.

i got mine from a bloke who worked at the national film school, good conversion and only cost me £150

Thanks for that ollydriscoll.I have had both answers it can and it can't.But yeah I have a El super 16 Bolex and I bought it only because they were also available in super 16>But I'd like to buy the Beau
to have 80 fps and keep all cameras super 16.I just hate digital. I own a HVX200 and I consider it only good enough for homemovies
even that I occasionally shoot super 16 be it 100 ft rolls to keep it economical

yeah,mine converted

I have this same R16 Reflex as a final backup. After all it is MECHANICAL. Batteries only work with electricity and without that you can't shoot anything with a modern camera. Atlantis could rise right in front the lens but without electrical power modern cameras are f*cked. Thats why film will never be defunct. If I saw the single greatest picture/scene of my life happening in front of me I would rather not miss it because of a flat battery.

which lens did you use? Angenieux 12-120mm zoom?
-
Can this camera be converted to super 16?I've been trying to get the later model that can shoot 80 fps.

why is the color going in and out?
it's good. the new vision2 emulsion is so crisp; you'd think it was shot on 35mm. but the beaulieu r16 did its job too
