Komen die in Nederland voor? En ze lijken zeer veel op een Hoornaar wesp.Mooi filmpje 5 sterren.

Hi, late reaction due to my holidays. Hope you've recovered from your fright, for which there is absolutely no reason. Beautiful and harmless moth, this one! Unless of course you met with a very similar giant wasp from which the Dutch name has been derived. Has never stung me, but looks very awesome.

so when i looked down expecting to see a big moth and ended up seeing what looked like a giant furry wasp with spiders legs and moths wings, well i was more than a litle shocked more like what the fuck is that!!!! lol the one that landed on me seemed bigger than the ones in this vid though?

let me tell you this, i was walking home 2day and what i thought was a big moth was flying around me so i ignored it until it landed on me, i thought it was a bit wierd that i could feel its legs across my arm and chest

Nice video work - it's especially cool that you got the actual mating so close-up and clear.

Groeten,
Maria

How do you found them ???

Hi Daeona2,
I work as a volunteer at the butterfly garden of Waalre, the Netherlands. On this particular day a group of volunteers was doing maintenance jobs at the garden and was just having lunch at a table near the poplars. It was impossible NOT to see the two moths. Sesia apiformis is a day-active moth which lives nearby poplars.
Hope you will be able to see the moth yourself one day! Greetings from Maria
