Michelle Chua started learning Carnatic Vocal music on 2 Oct,2006 (Vijayadasami day) from Mrs R.Banumathy (daughter & disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi Dr S.Ramanathan) of alapana, Singapore. She test recorded her first Dikshitar Kriti on 4th Nov'06 at alapana Chambers. Michelle says she drew inspiration to learn Carnatic music from Nitin Sony's music and after listening to Bombay Jayasri.

  • mymrhyde, you don't seem to be a very good reader. In my previous post, I told Michelle to simply ignore people commenting on her attire etc. Wearing a saree or jewels does not matter - what matters is just an honesty in presentation. In other words, you and I actually agree with each other.

  • I think she's doing a really good job for not being south indian let alone not indian at all.

  • grt job......... i know how tough is to learn n excel carnatic music....... appreciate Michelle's work, n she has loads of hard work to do in case of her voice n accent modulation ...... its not easy but not impossible . all the best.....

  • hey i do agree with u...... how ever we need to appreciate the fact that this lady has an interest in our culture n its not easy to learn carnatic vocal... i specify vocal.... sooo i now request u to grow up plz .... keep urself in place of her n try learn some western form of music that too vocal.... u would know the pain..

  • nice, feels nice to see our culture flow beyond boundaries

  • somebody who's mother tongue is tonal.... understanding Indian languages itself would be tough. !!!! great attempt... but i guess she needs more practice.... before she takes up other krithis...
