    Several people have mentioned it in these comments, most likely it was more of a glowing red or orange but because of the uv spectrum that the camera lens can see it appeared purple.

    He did tighten it, just that the audio was off from the video, so it sounded like he didn't. Audio was probably off because he was moving faster than sound...
