@DrDonGCSUS, I know this is an old argument, but Ella Mae Lentz made a similar point in her letter about AB 2072 and I thought it profound. What if hearing parents with hearing children were given the options of morse code, a bee dance, and flag signals, alongside spoken English. Wouldn't that be an insult to English? So it is with cued speech, etc. Real language is hardwired in the brain. All people deserve a real natural language from birth.

@DBadvocate Exactly! It is ingrained within my fiber and it is HOW I LIVE my life. Thank you!

@gamaswanderings Candy, being Culturally Deaf isn't inherited, it is ingrained within your fiber and how you life your life.

@shelpotma1 , really that gamaswanderings is Candy!!! thank you for telling me that!!!
WOW! Dr. G! Thanks for the wonderful video! I totally agree with you. ASL is the best method for Deaf children because though speech may work for some, it doesn't work for most. And once the children get behind, it may be too difficult to catch up! Why is it so necessary for everyone to be the same? Why must people think Deaf have to be like hearing? Why not just teach them with what we have-ASL! It's so SIMPLE! Anyway! Good video!

@brianaott EXACTLY, Brianna -- oralism is a gamble, and when the gamble doesn't work, the kids suffer, most for their entire lives. ASL IS so "simple"!

Shel, not quite. Read what he said to me. I am after all more culturally deaf than him, why should I trust him? I'd trust me more. Anyway, the bottom line isn't about all that either! It's about parental right and parents right to choice. I am done here. I was done a long time ago but I keep getting comments directed at me. I've said it and I'll say it again, we see things differently and that is ok. But, trust me, you guys are hurting the deaf community.

@gamaswanderings Candy/Gamas/Gina -- Being born into a Deaf family may have given you the foundation to be culturally Deaf, but this does not necessarily mean that YOU are culturally Deaf. When YOU have rejected those values of your Deaf forebears, you have lost the right to claim you are culturally Deaf -- instead, you have attempted to remake yourself as "culturally Hearing". Being culturally Deaf is a frame of mind, not an inherited condition, per se.
