In 1962 eight students from James Cook University in Townsville painted a picture of Leslie Charteris' Saint on Castle Hill. This is the story of that incident and the subsequent history of the image that remains painted on the side of Castle Hill. This is a Storylines Q150 digital story. This digital story was made by the State Library of Queensland with funding from the Queensland Government.  It is a legacy of the Q150 celebrations in 2009.

  • Hi Guys, Congratulations on an accurate version of this event. The original question mark was painted on the night of 24.4.1961 by a team of 8 (guys and girls) as a comm. week prank for the newly opened Uni. College and viewed by Anzac parade next morning. One guy lowered over on a 13mmrope while others held other end. EXTREMELY dangerous - no other equipment used. Several faculties involved. Debriefing in my room at Stuart House. Happy reunion in 2012. At least 1 of originals now deceased.
