PHILADELPHIA DEMO: Free Mumia and the MOVE 9!

This is a video of the May 10, 2008, demonstration supporting the MOVE 9 prisoners and Mumia Abu-Jamal, on the 23rd anniversary of the May 13 bombing of the MOVE organization's West Philadelphia home.

As the "MOVE Commission" would later document, police shot at MOVE members when they tried to escape the burning house, resulting in the deaths of 11 MOVE members, including 5 children and MOVE founder John Africa.

After police shot over 10,000 rounds of bullets into their West Philadelphia home, a State Police helicopter dropped a C-4 bomb, illegally supplied by the FBI, on MOVE's roof. The bomb started a fire that eventually destroyed 60 homes: the entire block of a middle-class black neighborhood. Carrying the young Birdie Africa, the only other survivor, Ramona Africa dodged gunfire and escaped from the fire with permanent burn scars.

The latest in a series of videos spotlighting the MOVE 9 parole hearings, this features interviews with several supporters, including:

I love how people bash the police, but then when somebody they love is in trouble, they call 9-11 for the police to come help them...

Also, you are aware that those suspects who were roughed up by police were career criminals, right? And, they shot and severely wounded a person on the streets.

If somebody you loved was walking down the street and shot by some guys driving by, would you not want them to get roughed up?

Again, people complain about cops until the day they need them...

Comment to Ms. Lamb... Mumia is not on death row anymore. He has a life sentence, which is different. Then you say "even if he had killed the police officer, that should have been a manslaughter charge". No, that would be murder unless there was an accident. Get your facts straight. there are people who think it was excessive force. but when the city confronted them the first time in the late 70's they came peacefully and then move started shooting at them and winded up killing an officer.

the same in the 80's they told them to stand down and they didn't, they started shooting at cops again.

so the city dropped C4 on them. i do feel bad for the people that lived on that street because they lost their homes and all. i don't feel sorry for the move members who were involved.
