Karol Szymanowski (1882- 1937) was a personal friend of Rubinstein. This friendship provided Rubinstein with a unique insight into the composers music. This photograph shows Szymanowki to the right of Rubinstein and violinist Paul Kochanski on their return from America in 1922.
Sounds like jazz, almost, strangely enough.

The mazurka form executed a resurrection in the hands of Mr.Szymanowski, who injected the original with the Polish Mountaneers music. A number of people around here on the Tube mess around with some of the Opus 50, but Mr. Rubinstein, for a change, is a professional and gives you a real solid idea of what this is all about.

They were friends. Rubinstein visited S. often in Zakopane. (South-East of Poland)

Interesting. I never knew Rubinstein had recorded Szymanowski, but I guess I was wrong! Many thanks for putting this up!
