The hardware used in this is an Arduino, SD card interface, MAX232 chip, and a few other small components. The case is a removable HDD sled. I haven't managed to run down the rechargeable AA batteries yet (2700 mA each!) in a couple hours of testing so I'd say the battery life is really good. Protip: hardwire the battery pack directly to the 5 v bus on the board (not the USB port) or you won't get enough current.
Hey could you email me the source code? and where you got that barcode scanner? I'm building a race timing system for a 5K i host every year, and want to get barcodes instead of race numbers this year...
Thanks!
