The last minutes on board the Sea Shepherd advanced tri-maran powerboat, the Ady Gil, before it was rammed by the Japanese whaling security vessel the Shonan Maru 2, shows the Sea Shepherd volunteers relaxing. 3 harpoon vessels had already passed with no incident, lulling the crew into a false sense of security that the last vessel would also observe maritime navigation rules, but instead turned directly towards them purposefully ramming and cutting their ship in two and threatening their lives. Just before initial impact, the Shonan Maru turns to starboard putting both vessels on a collision course.

The video shows the volunteer crew discussing their fuel situation, relaxing, and farewelling their friends on the Sea Shepherd vessel, the Bob Barker.

Maritime navigation regulations state that the Shonan Maru should give way to ships off its starboard bow.

The master of the ship with right of way needs to continue on the same course and speed. Evasive action should only be taken by the master of the ship with right of way if collision is imminent.

The Ady Gil was not designed for quick maneuverability at low speed, it could only go backwards and forwards in this type of situation.

It was only at the point of when the ships were about to collide that the crew realized what was going to happen, and the prop wash shows the ship gunning its engines right before collision. After the collision the Ady Gil moves itself backwards, meaning the apparent prop wash was most likely an attempt at moving the Ady Gil out of the path of the Shonan Maru 2.

The video shows the Shonan Maru 2 going out of its way to get into the path of the Ady Gil, and the collision that resulted that threatened the lives of the 6 Sea Shepherd volunteers on board.

Official investigations have commenced in New Zealand, the flag state for the Ady Gil, and in Australia who is responsible for search and rescue where the collision occurred. Requests have been made to Japan for an official investigation and to cooperate with the other investigations.

  • 1 minute ago they were happy :)

    1 minute later, they're in tears :(

P.S I really miss that Ady Gil

  • HAHAHAHAH stupid fuckin hippies they deserve that

  • @JediDanD I was the only Starfleet Captain in history to pass the Shonan Maru test.

  • The Shonan Maru . . . So is that where sinners go when they die?

Whalers go to Hell, long live the Sea Shepherds.

  • @mrklp they did have little fuel and were conceiving it but the japs ran into the ady Gil and Peter should not be in jail they were in international waters and should be sent to his own country not to stupid japan!

  • @mrklp backtracking huh. I think ive answered all your questions and you keep saying that a ship that could not b turned on because they were out of gas could magically manage to move out of the way. The whaling ship should have moved instead they rammed them and nearly killed everyone onboard and YOU BLAME THE ADY GIL! How dare you called yourself human if you think like that!

  • @TJFworld2000 Keep grasping out those straws. You've already backtracked once and now you've come up with a completely different story to explain how wrong you are.

You have no credibility and I'm not wasting any more time with your ignorant ass.

  • @mrklp dude, you are a complete idiot! THEY COULD NOT TURN ON THEYRE BOAT WITH THE FUEL THEY HAD EVEN FOR EMERGENCIES! I say they were mout of fuel b/c they could not turn on the boat! might there b fuel left, yes possibly which is y they drained the boat of ANY POSSIBLE FUEL LEFT (says Chuck Swift) but there was not enough to turn on the boat to move away from the ship that TURNED INTO THEM! Even if they had gas, no one was in the cock pit, they were ontop the ady gil. Watch the episodes over

  • @TJFworld2000 It was enough for emergencies, and they failed to use it. You have already backtracked on your claim that they had "NO" fuel onboard. You are grasping at straws here and anyone who has watched the show knows you are full of shit at this point.

  • @mrklp Dude, i do watch the show every since the beginning of season 2 and they were siphoning on yes fuel but IF YOU WOULD LISTEN TO PETE BUTHEUNE it was not enough to run the ady gil! oil=very small amount but not enough to run a ship like ady gil. you are wrx
