The Alaskan seafood industry reportedly dumps 1.5 million metric tonnes of untreated fish waste into the ocean every year. In contrast, fish waste from processing farmed salmon is used to make fish-based fertilizer.
According to page 76 of their 2004 tax filing to the Internal Revenue Service, the $560,000 grant to SeaWeb was to provide "a high quality tool-kit and coordination infrastructure for use by ENGOs (environmental organizations) in their campaigns to shift consumer and retailer demand away from farmed salmon."
your an idoit. I am opposed to fish farms too. but no need to lie. The fish farm industry uses carotenoids that are synthetic but are completely neccessary for the fish. As well, the anti-biotic use in fish farms has dropped dramatically, to almost trace levels. We should focus more on the amount of fish oil that is used by these farms. Then again, would that matter? Fish oil is a commodity. I guess you have start somewhere.
