Dangerous trip in Uyuni with Colque tours, Bolivia

Driving in the dark. The driver refused to stop the jeep during the Uyuni's 3 days tour in Bolivia. The company didn´t apologize and refused to give all my money back when I left the tour the next morning. When I tried to talk to them they said "there´s an argentinian disturbing".

El chofer manejó sin luces y se rehusó a parar cuando tomabamos la excursión de 3 días en Uyuni, Bolivia. Se negaron a devolverme todo mi dinero cuando dejé el tour a la mañana siguiente. Cada vez que trataba de hablar con ellos decian "hay un argentino molestando". Ni siquiera pidieron disculpas por lo sucedido.

jodeme q te decian "hay un argentino molestando" !!!yo rompo todo y q me venga a buscar el embajador y cronica tv!!! no puede ser¡entiendo q sea un pais pobre pero tienen q cambiar esa idiosincracia.mi mama es boliviana, yo naci en arg respeto sobremanera la tierra de mi ma pero esas cosas nos molestan a las 2.porq hacen quedar mal al pais.tienen q empezar a respetar al turista,al fin y al cabo de ellos viven.

I was part of the tour that had this terrible accident on 13 July. The driver was driving far too fast, 120 kmh according to another surviver. The next day we found out this driver worked for Colque Tours as a mechanic and wasn´t entitled to transport groups of tourists. I asked Señor Colque and his wife what they had to say about that and was told that the driver had done that many times before and they had always been happy with his work. I´m afraid we survivers don´t share this opinion.

tours had an accident this sunday 13 july 2008. I read it in a newspaper in my country Belgium. 4 people died 3 tourist and the driver. I hope the parents of Ben Vollon, who unfortunally died, and his wife who survived the accident get to see this video and help them to get legal action against the firm. I also went a couple of years ago to the salar and I know it can be dangerous. We were very lucky with our driver. I Hope we can do something against the dangerous situation!!!!

We were there too! It was a dreadful experience. The driver cared nothing for his safety and even less for ours. No matter how much we protested as you can see he continuted regardless. It is a miracle we made it to our destination unharmed. We refused to continue with this man in the jeep the following day. I fear younger travellers do not protest enough. In light of what has happened please please be careful and do not be afraid to complain you life may depend on it...Catherine and Tony

1st May 2008 - 11 tourists were killed in jeep crash on the Salar near Uyuni. Quite possibly brakes and steering were faulty. Most Uyuni jeeps are in poor condition so if you are a tourist check BEFORE you start the trip, the brakes steering and lights and refuse to go unless everything working. Your life may be at stake. We refused in middle of desert and after argument the tour company sent another jeep and driver (ours was very reckless - we nearly crashed a few times)
