Ann Hayes worked for years as a pediatric oncologist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, and as senior vice-president for clinical research at Immunex Corp., a pharmaceutical company. After retiring, she established two charitable organizations to support children in need.
The Danica Children's Foundation, named for her two adopted daughters, funds projects in health and education of children mainly in Seattle. And as an expression of her continued commitment and connection with Uganda, where she adopted her eldest daughter, she founded and continues to be the major supporter of Concern for the Girl Child, a non-profit agency providing educational opportunities, social support and health care for orphaned girls in poverty stricken areas of Uganda.
