I decided to "torture test" a Sennheiser MKE 400 at a busy event last week. The tiny shotgun mic was mounted in the camera's hot shoe, plugged into the built-in input, and used for quick interviews. This recording was made in a large, hard-walled room with Near the end of the event, with probably 30 people talking around us. I was standing about 3 feet from the subject, putting the camera and microphone about 2 feet away.
I wanted to test the microphone's usefulness in a loud situation. This is a test clip shot in a noisy environment. No audio processing had been done to the clip.
Camera: Canon EOS 7D
Microphone: Sennheiser MKE 400 (low cut off, sensitivity low)
Lens: Canon 24-105L IS
This audio sounds pretty great. When I've used the MKE 400 with my 7d I can't seem to get rid of the high pitched hiss the AGC seems to create with my camera. The noise is really annoying. Any tips?
