Uploaded by http://aftersabbath.blogspot.com the blog for heavy 60s/70s obscurities. Minneapolis' Cain were one of the great overlooked hard rock bands of the mid '70s, releasing two albums on the small ASI label and recording some demos for a third before calling it quits as disco took hold of the nation. Their debut A Pound of Flesh is among 1975's best offerings and is highly collectible on vinyl for good reason, this is one badass rock 'n' roll record, with powerful soaring vocals from frontman Jiggs Lee and searing guitar work by Lloyd Forsberg that drive the platter of hot rockers. Only the masturbation anthem "If the Right Don't Get You the Left One Will" sounds slightly tossed-off, the other seven songs kick all kinds of ass, especially the four that form the absolutely killer first side. Pedal to the metal opener "Queen of the Night" and "Heed the Call" are the record's heaviest cuts, while pompy harmonies and progressive influences creep in to good effect on "Badside", closing epic "All My Life", and "Katy", an emotional tale of romance at the roller rink with some stunning use of muted guitars throughout.
