What's funny is they will growl and hiss and "grin" at you but they are quite placid. Granted everyone is right, there IS a chance it could have bit you, and it woulda been a wickedly nasty bite, but if you had grabbed it at the nape of it's neck, like a cat, you coulda picked it up. I would NOT recommend keeping a wild adult possum for a pet, but keep your eyes peeled at night for babies. That's how I got my pet opossum! Her and her brother were orphaned.
