Here's a rarely seen Columbia short that was originally written for Moe, Larry and Curly but assigned to two other comics on the Columbia Shorts Department payroll, Gus Schilling and Dick Lane after Curly took ill. Enjoy!

  • you said this was originaly larry curly and moe, does that explain the stooges music at beginning???

  • @TheClassicComedyEra Not so much "Stooges" music as they pretty much had their own variation of the "Three Blind Mice" theme by this time. More noticeable Stooge-wise would be the Komos mask and opening credit similarities. Almost all of the Columbia 2-reel comedies used the same generic theme music (in this case, "Merrily We Roll Along") and opening credits all resemble what we all immediately recognize as "Stooge-like". See the short I posted, "New News" for another Stooge-like title/credit.

  • Not to sound overly concerned about it, but there is more cleavage blocking at 4:19, and it probably continues throughout. The Columbia censorship anecdote that closes The Great Movie Shorts (Maltin) in action!

  • McIntyre cleavage censorship?? 0:55

  • Wow! Seeing all the supporting Stooge players in a Columbia short without the Stooges, is the most fascinating film study, if like me, you tend to focus on the other actors, like Phil Van Zandt, and Kenneth McDonald.

  • i just have to say that thanks to you, im feeling better after watching this. it was awsome.

  • This Was A Great Short For Schilling & Lane & Wish The Stooges Appeared In This One To Bad BecauseWas Curly's Illness ):

  • Was this the same Dick Lane who, at the same time, was playing the inept Inspector Faraday in the Chester Morris-starred "Boston Blackie" series at Columbia?

  • Interesting seeing a lot of the Stooges supporting cast like Emil Sitka and Dudley Dickenson having their own roles like these.
