Passing Down The Spirit - The Ahmad Sufi Qawwali Group from Kabul in Afghanistan. C21 Troy interviews Zhara Qadir spokesperson for The Ahmad Sufi Qawwali Group on their recent tour [2009] of the UK at the Pearce Institute in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland.
Zahra gives a brief explanation about the history and inspiration of Qawwali music and the musicins who perfom at Sufi houses all over the world.
The Ahmad Sham Sufi Qawwali group have been playing for over 30 years and is one of the most highly regarded Qawali groups of Afghanistan. They have toured India, Russia, Tajikistan, all over Afghanistan and last year came to London and toured Scotland, brought over by Reel Afghanistan, the first Afghan Festival in the UK
Last year the group raised £7000, which they donated to widows and children disabled by war, with the help of the British Council.
