Another behind the scenes piece. This one is my
favorite of the bunch but never bagged many hits.
Before SEC Media Days in summer 2009, the SEC
Commissioner, Mike Slive, summoned Lane Kiffin
to Birmingham to impress upon him league
expectations for proper conduct of a SEC football
coach. No transcripts exist of the lunch meeting.
Both parties announced afterwards that they under-
stood each other's position. Translated, this means
that lunch must have been quite a donnybrook. I
bet food was on the restaurant walls by the time
this meeting was over.
