Cruising down the Huanpu river on the Costa Allegra. Famous landmarks: the Oriental Pearl tv tower; the Bund, the river front on the western side of the river, unfortunately at the moment inaccessible owing to construction work in preparation for EXPO 2010.
Music: "The Night of Shanghai", Gold Finger New Zizhu Tune, played by the Chengdu Folk Orchestra. China Trad. Instrumental Music Ensemble; Feng Qiaohuai; Liu Dehai

What a coincidence that you should see today the words "China Shipping" coming from East Asia via Europe to North America.

what a city! Today as I was stopped on the road waiting for a train, i noticed cars loaded with containers labeled "China Shipping", never until now have I imagined where those containers are coming from. It looks to me like a city out of science fiction. Thanks for sharing!

Shanghai claims to have more skyscrapers than N.Y. and is busy building more. The east side of the river, where the tv tower is situated, was just rice paddies a few years ago.
