Part of the Parade of Vulnerable Native Dog Breeds at Crufts in March 2008. With John Charlton as Mr Dandie Dinmont, the fictional character from whom the breed got its name.

Well, I suppose they all did. It wasn't a competition, just a parade to showcase some of the most endangered dog breeds. Our breed, the Dandie Dinmonts, were originally bred by the border gypsies for poaching. They were very successful at hunting badgers and otters, and became highly desired by the local gentry. By the end of the 2nd World War they were nearly extinct - mainly because of food shortages, but also because they proved very good at hunting for land mines. So much for evolution!

Absolutely wonderful!!! I am the proud owner of two Dandies in Canada and member of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club of Canada. One with a UK connection - my little mustard dog Razzle Dazzle is the offspring of Cloverwood's Dandie Dazzle. My little Pepper Dandie Lizzie is 12-1/2 years young. Lost our older girl Spirit last June who was 13-1/2. This video is my all time favourite!!!
