David Djinipirdi is Elijah Gunydjurruwuy's brother. He is 20 years old and of Bulany' skin. He is from Lake Evella, also known as Gapuwiyak.

Listen to Djinipirdi here as he does his stuff. Pretty deadly eh?!?

The yirdaki in use here is from Lake Evella, a stick that has seen plenty of action in the community and has been used on tour as well in public performances. It plays in the key of F# fundamental with G overtone.

I like the way David plays, his syncopations are not quite like what I am used to hearing in eastern Arnhem Land, perhaps pointing to regional variants in style...

  • That is devil? Morrkoi?

  • Mokuy, which can mean spirit element of the deceased, or Ancestral Being amongst other things. Devil is only a very loose "translation" and is somewhat inappropriate as mokuy does not have any biblical association nor the evil connotations that people associate with the Devil.

  • Wow! That playing creates quite a fantastic energy. Wish it could have gone on longer.

A trick of the light, for sure, but the yirdaki looks like it's made of American paper birch.

  • The yirdaki has been wrapped in duct tape with some of it falling off from exposure to the elements so maybe that's why it looks papery?

this was when the human spirit was at its finest moment, how all of our soul long for this time of perfection, tho it is a moment in the hourglass of eternity our future is not far from this pure times.

  • david you and elijah do the didgeridoo proud, please keep playing i'm hooked

  • Again I discover the wind is your friend.

You can hear the wind transform the sound before it hits the mike. Gifs a nice circulair transformation effect. But with or without the wind this was a level of playing you can only hear on your side of the world.

  • He's incredible !

    One of my favourites !!!

  • I can feel that one moving energy at my spine. Very good!
