Are astrologers in a similar position as gays before Stonewall? There are some interesting parallels. Astrologers may find it difficult to admit their interest to family, friends or business colleagues because of potential antagonism. This is discrimination.

  • As both a gay man and an accomplished astrologer, I can only say that you stop being treated like a victim when you stop perceiving yourself as one. Pearl clutching only begets more of what catalyzes the same.

  • maybe it's not severe these days but check history out. it's not at all unfair to group the two together .. both are things criticised by the uneducated...or poorly educated

  • nice speech!

  • Dr Lehman, thank you and well said. Yes, gays get killed, and that is a real issue, but it doesnt mean that the argument "we're more persecuted than you" makes sense. Any discrimination and persecution is injurious psychologically, spiritually, & sadly often physically, as with gays. But that doesnt mean that we shouldnt ALL stand for the rights of ALL human beings to pursue their path in life with freedom, equality and dignity.I hope your words become a turning point to bring the needed change.

  • Oh - and about the oatmeal. I personally love the stuff, but if you showed me a statistical analysis that showed that it worked for prediction, I would be open to the possibility - which I suspect you wouldn't be. So who's the more objective sort then? Casting aspersions at others because their beliefs don't fit into your personal world view MAKES my point.

  • Actually - you've got to be kidding. Because astrologers have been arrested for being a practicing astrologer. We have an organization called AFAN which has addressed legal discrimination. And the fairy tale bit is very funny. Because there was about as much evidence that gays were psychologically ill as there is for your myth that there's no evidence for astrology. Your language looks stunning similar to the swill that was being thrown at gays in the 1970s and earlier.

  • If I came to you and told you that I could tell you who would win an election by taking a bowl of oatmeal, leaving it out in a warm room for a few weeks until it became mouldy, and then the candidate whose face most resembles the image in the mould would be the winner, you'd probably think I was crazy, and criticizing this technique would not be discrimination.

  • Comparing prosecution of homosexuals before stonewall to prosecution of astrologers? You've got to be kidding. That's just insulting. How often are astologers beaten, or murdered? Where is it illegal to be a practicing astrologer?

Even if there was any evidence at all that astrology was something more than fairy tales, which there isn't, this would still be a ridiculous thing to say.
