***Remembering Master Ghulam Haider***

A great name in music in the history of the subcontinent. One of his biggest achievements was the discovery of two of the most popular female singers the subcontinent has ever produced, Lata Mangeshkar and our own Madam Noor Jehan.

Master Ghulam Haider started his career in the 1930's and went on to achieve tremendous fame, popularity and respect in the times to come in the field of his choosing. His first film as a music composer, "Suvarg ki seehi" by Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj did not do well. Then came Punjabi film "Gul Bakaoli" by Seth Dilsukh M. Pancholi in 1938, It was a film in which a song "Shala Javanian Manein", by a ten year old Noor Jehan took Punjab y storm. But the film which could be named as being instrumental in shaping and lifting Master Ghulam Haider's careers was undoubtedly "Khazanchi". Its music changed the period of the Bengali musicians of Bombay and Calcutta. They were forced to adapt to the modern times after Khazanchi.

After some time Syed Shaukat Husaain Rizvi made "Khandaan" in which Madam Noor Jehan appeared as a heroine for the first time. In this film, Master Ghulam Haider's music reached new heights as almost all the songs created waves in the subcontinent. Songs like "Mere ammi ka raaj bhala", "Panchi urh ja", "Merey liye jahan mein" were on everybody's lips in those days.

And so, the success story continued. In time, he came to Lahore and started composing music for Pakistani films. Some of the films he composed music for included "Bheegi Palkein, Beqarar, Ghulam, Gulnaar" but times were changing. He faced one difficulty after another. Meanwhile he kept receiving offers from Bombay but refused to leave his hometown. Ultimately he felt ill and finally died in 1956. During his career, he composed songs, which will always be remembered by all.

Thanks for uploading this great song; what a music era that was? the greates ever, the most original ever film music was created in 1940's and 1950's; it is unfortunate that present-day listeners of film music don't care for that music; they don't even care for the great voices of Lata or Rafi not to mention Saigol, Shamshad or Manna Dey; they don't know what they are missing;

The intensity in the love Kamini shows for DK in this love story made a very deep impact on me since the day I saw this film when I was a child. All the songs she sings and her acting in this film bring tears to my eyes everytime I listen to them. Its been ove 50 years. I know I will not live for ever, but this is immortal.
