In the past you might have seen me talk about how your hands are the most common way to transmit germs. A team of researches at Johns Hopkins actually studied this by swabbing the hands of graduates across the state of Maryland before and after their graduation ceremonies to see if there were any changes to what germs were there. As it turns out they found that 93% of the samples contained non-pathogenic bacteria, or bacteria that doesn't cause illness. So that's good news and shouldn't stop you from shaking someone's hand which can be a warm and friendly way to greet someone. Still, practicing good hygiene by washing your hands regularly will keep you from getting sick AND not touching your face.
