Shrews have the highest metabolic rate among mammals. That means thay they need to eat a lot. About 2/3 of their body weight (more when they have young) per day. They sleep like all other mammals, of course.

I was moving compost from my bin to some garden beds and found two shrews. I accidentally broke one of the hind legs of the second one I found with the shovel though... I couldn't see him under all the vegetable & leaf matter. They squeak. :\ Last I saw them I had put them near a strawbale near the compost which they crawled under. They where really cute but now I feel bad for the one with the limp leg.
