Zebra Jumping Spider - Salticus Scenicus- Males

We see bazillions of these Zebra jumpers outside on hot days. They just became the most common jumper I see as of the beginning of June. Seems Eris militaris is kind of taking a back seat to these guys. I found a large male and a smaller male and decided to get some video of them. They have some crazy long jaws and really long fangs!

I was not pairing them to fight, and with the larger male blatently bigger than the other I knew the little guy would back off right away. It was interesting to see them displaying their fangs at one another, though! I let them go after getting my shots.

The lighting sucks in this video because my old lamp died....I need a new one!

Also, I have NO idea why this video has so many views. It's one of my worst. ( I only had a small lamp thing for lighting, and my hand is shaking everywhere trying to get up close (with the webcam) haha. Weird!

Hi Shannon, I totally agree with you on the Zebra spiders being out in force right now! They are all over my house, so common, but very interesting to watch. I am currently filming them for my next video post. It is amazing all the different shapes and coloring of this species. In your area they have the long pronounced palps hiding the huge jaws and in my area in Michigan a whole different look...no huge jaws! Have a good one!
