This video shows a pseudo-holographic effect accomplished using an old, regular LCD monitor and the Microsoft Kinect.
Some UI elements were added for intuitive interaction. This allows for pretty easy interaction without even touching the screen. Also support for anaglyph (red/cyan) stereoscopic viewing was added for improved 3D effect in real life.

  • Cool video dude!

If I may ask, what platform did you use to create the graphics, and was it difficult to integrate it with the Kinect SDK (or OpenNI?) ?

    Thanks.

  • @hhsn The graphics run in my own little 3D engine based on (managed) DirectX 9. Integration with MS Kinect SDK was extremely simple.

  • Just noticed that a blue and a red dot appear when you pass the glasses over the screen, why?

  • @soylomass Because I moved my right hand over the screen, the 3D cursor appeared. What you're seeing is the anaglyph version of the white cursor.

  • @programming4fun Are you working in any new kinect project?

  • @soylomass I have a few things in mind :-)

  • AWESOME is the word!!! :) :)

  • Do you think the kinect can be used to make a regular screen touch? For example, just a standard computer monitor?

    Thanks,

    FET

  • @programming4fun Cool bro, keep up with the good work :)

  • i can't believe this never occured to me before - to just lay the PC monitor down.

  • @programming4fun I don't know what are they like, but i would like someone to do something involving physical control (something with buttons) plus body recognition, like an FPS or anything. I think kinect lacks of this kind of development.

  • @programming4fun Ahh, i understand hehe.
