Là, dove il mare è profondo,
fondo, fondo;
là, dove le onde si rincorrono,
corrono, corrono:
e le luci si disperdono
e lo sguardo si dirada,
si fa chiaro;
e l'amor mi raggiunge
col suo dolce sovvenir.
Là, dove il mondo ti dimentica;
là, dove il sole ti colpisce
col suo chiaror;
là, dove un lampo ti pervade
col suo baglior,
e in un abbraccio ti rapisce.
Là, dove l'oblio ti sommerge
con la sua luna;
là, dove il mondo ti abbandona
con la sua fine:
là voglio riposare,
e perdermi rapito
nel Sole: nell'amore infinito.

Ddà, unni lu mari è prufunnu
funnu, funnu;
ddà, unni l'unni s'assicutunu
currunu, currunu:
e li luci si straminunu
e la talìata s'allasca,
si fa limpiu;
e l'amuri mi raggiùnci
ccu lu so duci ricordu.
Ddà, unni lu munnu ti scurda;
ddà, unni lu suli ti batti
ccu lu so spirluciu;
ddà, unni na saitta t'attraversa
ccu lu so splinnuri,
e nta n'abbrazzu t'aggramigna.
Ddà, unni l'allinazioni t'affunna
ccu laso luna;

ccu la so fini:
ddà vogghiu arripusari

The sea of our sorrow, the sea of our thoughts, the sea of our soul, the sea of our dreams...
The sea which sometimes snares us into a whirl of troubles and thoughts, the sea which into a seaquake blow us away from our certainties and like a thief predates us.
As I write in an aphorism of mine: «The sorrow is like the sea, in its indistinct waving and ebbing ceaseless.».

There, where the sea is deep,
deepest, deepest;
there, where the waves
run one after the other,
they run, run:
and lights straggle
and the look disperses,
becomes clear;
and love reaches me
with its sweet memories.
There, where the world forgets you;
there, where the sun stuns you
with its light;
there, where a flash pervades you
with its glow,
and whisks you away in an embrace.
There, where the oblivion floods you
with its moon;
there, where the world leaves you
with its end:
there I wish to rest,
and entranced to lose me
in the Sun: into infinite love.
