A true gem, this deserto. One almost forgets that it's an all-male film. I found the first 2/3 of the film excellently paced and constructed. The last 1/3 was somewhat weary, because the metaphors of the battle became more and more thick and allegoric. The perfect equilibrium and the light construction of the first part have been lost at a certain point. But it is a gem nonetheless. Sadly, Zurlini is not a name in the Canon.

la scena intera è un capolavoro..."li vedi quegli alberi laggiù...quando li raggiungerò non mi volterò indietro,e tu non potrai più vedermi..."

Zurlini was a genius. A forgotten, for the most part, genius.

More please. This promises to be a great sequence. Morricone's music is haunting.
