A $75,000 fine wasn't enough to make James Harrison think twice about the vicious blows to both WR Josh Cribbs and WR Mohammad Massaquoi that sent both players to the sidelines for the rest of the game this past Sunday.
The league is now changing course and suspending players for hits like Harrison's. Players will no longer be fined for devastating hits, they'll instead face a suspension regardless of whether or not it's a first time offense.
Do you think suspensions will be the deterrent the league is looking for?

let me say first rugby tackles arent the same as NFL tackles next the FOOTBALL IS A CONTACT SPORT not something for lil faggots who cant take hit and finally the only dirty hits are ones that take place well after someone has stepped out of bounds or the whistle has been blow now this doesnt include if the person is to close to stop or dove and before contact the play ended
p.s there is no such thing as a defenseless player if a WR goes up to catch the ball they knew the risk when they jumped

I have played rugby and am amazed how american football players are unable at times to tackle properly. they just launch themselves unskilled like human bullets at recievers. alot of defensive players tackle like cowards now sadly.

@eaglewillfly oh another thing. tell me how physics allows someone to lead with their shoulder without leading with their head....i'd REALLY like to know that

@eaglewillfly granted, there are actual dirty hits on defenseless players. you can headhunt, try to knock a guy out by earholing him with the crown of your helmet. but the overwhelming majority of the time, those hits are obvious. even if they aren't, you know going in, as a player, that things like that can happen. it's part of the game

@eaglewillfly the hit on Heap, as well as 99% of other "dirty" hits in football, comes as a result of offensive players changing their trajectory, either voluntarily or involuntarily. how do you tell a defensive player to avoid "dirty" contact while letting offensive players do their thing? EVERY football player is taught to get lower than the opposition, whether on offense or defense. inevitably, there is going to be violent head-to-head contact. cont'd...

every football player knows the risk of playing the game. if you don't want to get hurt, concussed, or even killed, DON'T PLAY THE GAME! baseball players have been killed on line drives. do you want MLB to start using tennis balls? oh shit! don't walk across the street, that 1.5 ton car can wipe your ass off the map! i saw ZERO dirty hits during this weekend of "devastation," as the league likes to describe it. the hit on Todd Heap? incidental....cont'd

this is nothing new its been going on since the beginning of the sport. When we put on those helmets we know what we are getting ourselves into. Thats why the sport is not made for everyone. I know the merriweather hit was wrong, but the rest are legit to me. Man up or do something else.
