I remember not very long ago Bikini Atoll had to be evacuated again after they let people return because radiation poisoning in the plants was still to high. This radiation is way worse and once it gets in the plants, then animals, also the water supplies where do they think they can evacuate to then? Where are all of the million dollar remote control bots that should have been deployed for clean -up?
@dbstube The warheads used in WWII were weapons-grade nuclear material. What's circulating though the air right now is completely different; it was was intended to provide power for many, many years, and thus it likely has a much longer half life. Our way of life is going to change.
So the maximum radioactive decay rate on this map is 1e+03 Bq/m2 (1000 decays per second per square meter)... that's about 4 times smaller than natural radioactive radiation of potassium isotope 40 in human body.
The radiation from Nagasaki, Hiroshima and the Manhattan project and their effects were tracked up to the 1960's. Talk with people who grew up or lived as adults during that time and they will tell you stories of people with thyroid problems such as goiters and cancers of various types. The air was bad for a long time, health departments would call and ask citizens through random sampling to come down for a blood draw, this was related to me by a former resident born and raised in Martinez, CA.
wonder where the plume is now... lol all over the world in every gyre......

Should I grow vegetables outside in the back yard? Will it be safe to eat them?
Everything is open and exposed to rain, wind and sun.
