Paradise

Bobby was bored
while his teacher was terse
Just work (her voice bellowed)
your life could be worse!

But as Bobby tackled
the x minus z
he sighed because
math, it was useless to he

His teacher she said
you had better sit still
and follow my rules
and bend at my will

But Bobby he'd grown
quite wily and smart
I don't need a teacher
he said with a snark

And so Bobby ran
He didn't look back!
and the teacher she chased him
but bob was too fast

And Bob how he ran
til alone then he sighed
he sat back and he dozed
started closing his eyes

Who are you a voice bellowed
why are you in my field
don't you see my machines
and this tool that I wield

Bob he looked up
at the grumbling man
and then he looked round
at the crumbling land

And the pitiful onions, potatoes and beans
"Why do you work so hard for just corn and peas?"
Boy, you don't get it boy you don't see
life could be worse than this one that now be

And besides said the man, who was gruff as a goat
things have to be the way
they are wrote

Bob he walked up,
left this gruff one to gripe
in this sad birdless landscape
with nary a snipe

Oh Bob was so lonely and sad
and despair'd
in this city with self centered sues
everywhere

And those not obsessed with
envy and pride
were smitten with gluttony
and ate all in their sight

He sighed and despaired
and lacking in tact
not noticing an old lady
approaching
in back

But this old sad lady
she smiled no mistake
at Bobby said paradise
is the place that you make

And Bobby he smiled, for this was certainly true
and he had an idea
he'd break all the rules

the world was now troubling
but he knew what he'd do
he knew life could be worse
but could it be better, too?

So Bob he then smiled at the self centered sues
he winked at the farmer, not playing their ruse

And then this Boy Bob he turned to his school
with great tact preparing to break all that he knew

The teacher she sneered, a sneer well prepared
Stop smiling, she said, you're clouding my air!

But oh, Bob said,I could try and do worse
but smiling is just the start of my work

I'll teach different ways
for I know the truth
the world can be better
than the one we abuse

We can teach with compassion
and farm with great care
Allowing spaces for passion
and birds, bees and bears

The teacher she laughed
but Bob didn't back down
he knew he had to try
to make paradise somehow

And he'd do his spot
perhaps convince a few
that things could be worse
but they could be better too

And politics and money
and pollution and smog
are not the way that things must
go on

And Bobby he smiled for Bobby he knew
he saw hope in this chaos
and in me and in you
