This was in my old church hymn book Great Songs of the Church, we never sang it though. I can't understand why such a beautiful song is not much better known.

Yes, it is not "Old English." There are just a few Elizabethan pronouns in it. It is a beautiful song both in word and musical note. Not one syllable should be changed.

@ProphetLuong Because this is a timeless hymn. This type of songs should be sung like the original. That's the beauty of it. This is English from the 19th century.
