The decision by the French Parliament to pass a law punishing those who deny the so-called Armenian genocide shows that France is starting to be an expression of Armenian lobby's interests. That's why France cannot be considered as an impartial mediator in the settlement of Karabakh conflict. It was said in the press conference held by Atlas Studies Center head Elkhan Shahinoglu on the conclusions of Karabakh negotiations in 2012.
He recalled that, during his visit to South Caucasus French president Nicholas Sarkozy demonstrated a sympathy to Armenia which surfaced itself in his statements made in Yerevan and his visiting the monument to the so-called genocide victims.
The decision passed by Armenia is against the interests of both Turkey and Azerbaijan. Official Baku needs to make it clear now what steps will be taken if the law takes force. One of such steps could be expulsion of France from OSCE co-chairmanship.
Elkhan Shahinoglu described the increased attention of EU towards the conflict as a new tendency. Appointment of new EU envoy for South Caucasus is a sign of it. As for Russia, expert from Atlas Center Nijat Samadoglu beliees that Moscow's Karabakh policy will not change upon te-election of Vladimir Putin as the President of Russia.
Atlas experts presented the results of the poll held in Tartar, Barda and Goychay regions concerning the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. The poll unveiled that majority of population supports peaceful settlement. Population all three regions support a dialogue with the Armenian community of Nagorno Narabakh at civil society level.
The poll was held in frames of New Media project of IREX among the people with political education involved in public discussions.
Azerbaijan should come to terms with the reality. Free Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) never was part of azerbaijan. Learn to live peacefully with your neighbors. We haven't forgotten Shahoumian region and or Nakhijevan. Provoke us more, then be prepared to live with the consequences.
