For those of you who don't know, The Aufbau Incident was supposed to be a feature film filled with action, plot twists, and hilarity. I didn't originally plan on directing, like I had my other two films (The Heat Duct (2003) and Fernando's Hideaway (2004)), but I ended up with the job anyways. The script was completed in early spring 2005 by Tim, Travis, and I, and we planned to film it mostly in the summer after graduation. However, problems arose with scheduling and by the end of the year, we only had about a third of the film done. After a small resurgence of interest in spring 2006, the project was virtually abandoned.
Now, two years after the last filming activity, I have finally edited the existing footage into a mini-movie I call The Aufbau Chronicles. I'm going to work in Germany for 8 months this year and simply couldn't leave this loose end untied (also it was taking 35GB of hard drive space). It doesn't have the best flow, but there are some classic scenes in here, many of which have not been seen before. Of course, the well known "Tunak Tunak Tun" and "Car Chase" scenes are included, the latter with a new music selection due to popular demand (it's still not perfect, but at least I'm appealing to modern sensibilities now). Where missing footage exists, as it does quite often, a brief paragraph explaining the missing plot is shown.
This release marks the official end of my 'auteur' phase, for the time being at least. I don't have any film projects on the horizon, nor do I intend to. My interests now reside in the domain of music; I will be writing and recording an album with my brother for release early next year, which hopefully starts the ball rolling on a part (or maybe even full) time music hobby (or career).
Enjoy the film!
