Maine legislative hearing on same-sex marriage

Augusta, Maine -- A crowd of more than 3,000 attended a legislative hearing on a bill to allow same-sex marriage in Maine at the Augusta Civic Center on Wednesday, April 22. Opponents on both sides of the issue spoke throughout the day.

So...if we can just allow them to get married & have equal rights/benefits like they deserve - we can focus on bigger issues - like Iraq/Afghan, Jobs/Illegal Employers/Climate Change, John/Kate Gosselin & will Gargamel ever catch those damn smurfs. Seriously people - bigger picture here....hey, anyone know if Warner Bros approved the new Superman Movie?

Oh yeah, let gay/lesbians get married because it doesn't affect our personal lives - unless you're fantastically bigoted.

Public school sex/health Ed. don't tell students that this is the only way to be - that you must screw like this - they don't teach any sexual lingo/positions - they don't even say you have to get married - they say that usually when a man/woman make a baby - they try to get married - not that they should - big difference. And for the minority in the gay/lesbian community that try to push their lifestyle in public schools - then you're hurting the overall cause by irrational claims.

The gay/esbian community isn't trying to force teaching their lifestyle in public schools - 99% of them don't advocate that - for the 1% that do - even members of their own community denounce that - simply because heterosexual lifestyle isn't pushed either - don't confuse sex/health ed with agenda pushing. Sex/Health Ed says if you put dick into vagina & jizz - good chance you make a baby - they then say don't do this unprotected due to STD's - pre-teen pregnancy & its consequences - thats all.

Again...for those of you opposed to gay/lesbian marriage - please tell me how their right to get married will directly affect your marriage? If your kid comes to you asking about their lifestyle - then you're free to explain it in anyway you see fit - could be bigoted, could be tolerant - your choice, no one can deny that. Your marriage license fees don't increase, it doesn't affect prenup standards or divorce standards - your house doesn't combust into flames - Why mess with their lives more?

And given all the other problems that our country is facing - persecuting gay/lesbian community shouldn't even be on the list of priorities - they'll still get the same marriage licenes, sign the same prenups, susceptible to adultry/divorce - don't really know how their marriages affects our marriages - its still marriage with all the benefits & problems that go with it - when you cut through the bullshit - there is no reason to deny them the right to marry.

I have to agree because if they drag religion as an excuse - then I can make references about oppression or how Jesus was never for taking the rights away from people or persecuting them & etc. - If its not religion I'm waiting for the Polygamy or Marriage with a tree/animal coming into place or adult/child marriage - keeping in mind that Mormons are for Polygamy while against gay marriage - trees/animals can't give consent nor are adults - same with the children - forced consent/not adults.

What I do not understand is that so many religious believers seem to think they can justify their underlying hatred because a being in the sky commands them to.I just don't understand how that could possibly be seen as sane much less rational thinking.

Wow...talk about behinds the scenes shit talking - well outside of that verbal battle - anyone against gay marriage without resorting to religion as your excuse for opposing it - because using religion just doesn't cut it - why would anyone oppose this?
