During our lunchbreak in the studio 2009 Me and Mahesh jammed on the 19/8 rhythmic riff from the ending of my tune "The Dark Knight" .....
Its a free floating conversation in 8 beats cycle.
And great fun as I hope you can see
The sounds we sing are southindian "KONNAKOL"

  • I can watch this all day! This is a true display of a couple of konnakol masters. It looks so fun to be able to do once you have it down. I want to get into it some more. I have picked the gateways of rhythm dvd, and have the Pete L. 's book, but it seems that in order to really understand this science you would certainly need a really good teacher, not just a couple of books. Any tips otherwise to help someone interested in taking this to the next level? practice everyday is a given. thanks

  • I guess learning the alphabeth does not make you a poet :-)

My concept is very basic...... the music is in the mind so I work with a lot of coordination to get my needs fullfilled... Like playing the drums almost every day :-)

Few people will have a long therm masterplan with their art

I guess that works for me - an that helps me plan how to spend my energy every day.....

    (Hope I make sense)....bottomline:.... vizualize ....!

  • Thank for all these compliments

Mahesh is son of the mindblowing legend "Vikku Vinaykram"

What they are able to do w rhythm is ROCKETT SCIENCE

I am just a happy ant - astronaut

These guys should be all over Europe

    KONNAKOL RULES..

Check out my album on EMI/ indiabeat "The touch"

    (and buy it !)

  • I Started studying with Pete Lockett in 1994, later Trilok Gurtu

    Both amazing musicians.

  • What a groove! Amazing.

  • Very cool! I love your lessons on Konnakol, you have helped me a lot. Thanks! I found that sometimes its really hard to gain access to indian rhythmic knowledge. Now I'm in south india, so I get a very nice dose of Thavil drums very frequently.
