@Wingnutcaseman I was a production line tech on the 2600 at the time the 5200 was close to production. It was pretty much a simplified 400, with fixed memory and ROM cartridge only loading. In fact, 5200 games could easily be played on a 400 or 800. They really didn't put much work into making that machine, the CPU and G-TIA chipset were the same ones,i believe. Sad, for a while(Before WCI bought them) They had a lot of great talent, and were a great place to work.

The Atari 5200 version is great, I (still) own it (90+ games to date) to this day, I got it just days after getting my Atari 5200 unit (serial No. 141101, 4-port, U.S.-made) for my 17th birthday. I know all too well about the 5200 controllers and their quirkiness, and for this, Qix, and other 4-directional games like it, I also happen to own an AtariAge Redemption 5200, which allows me to use either 2600 or 7800 controllers with it, makes it play much better with it hooked up to the system.

This was pretty much a copy of the 400/800 home computer version released a year earlier which was considered a good home port for it's time. Because the Commodore 64 has similar resolution to the Atari 5200, their port of Pac-Man almost a year later is yet another clone.

Still kind of crap considering the potential of the system

awsome
I agree. The Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man ani't like the arcade version at all

@MrJoshbumstead The version wasn't like the arcade version because they hired this guy to do the prototype. They were in a hurry, so they published the prototype which is one of the reasons for the video game crash of '83
