Future of humanity hinges on Copenhagen climate conference

United Nations, New York, 8 December 2009 - The outcome of the historic United Nations climate change conference under way in Copenhagen will have reverberations for the future of humanity and the planet, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said today.
"We've come a long way in just two years time, but what we do now over the next two weeks [in Copenhagen] will determine how we fare", Mr. Ban told reporters at UN Headquarters in New York.

Over 100 heads of State and government, such as United States President Barack Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, as well as more than 15,000 participants, are set to take part in the event in the Danish capital, where nations are expected to wrap up agreement on an ambitious new climate change deal.

The Secretary-General today expressed optimism that an immediately effective "robust" agreement - which will include specific recommendations on mitigation, adaptation, finance and technology - will be reached.

"Copenhagen can and must be a turning point in the worlds efforts to prevent runaway climate change", he underscored.

Once upon a time, a savage group of people conquered other countries & implemented their culture, religion etc on others. They stole others' cultures, land, properties , knowledge, development etc. They raped, looted, steal & forced their religion on others. They extracted wealth from others & today these same people dictated on climate, peace etc. These savages even earlier polluted the world more than others. in my opinion this wont lead us anywhere i mean cmon everyone talks about the problem and makes promises but i dont see anyone doing anything good for a change. sure they lowered the level of carbon dioxide but thats not all they could have done (my opinion)
