This video is Part2. Todai-ji (Great Eastern Temple) is a Buddhist temple located in the city of Nara, Japan. The temple is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site as "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara", together with seven other sites including temples, shrines and places in the city of Nara. Deer (Shika), regarded as messengers of the gods in the Shinto religion, roam the grounds freely. Todaiji was constructed in 752 A.D. as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan.

You can see the great statue of Buddha in the Todai-ji Daibutsuden Kondo from various angles.

There is the hole at the bottom of the pillar in the backside of the Great Buddha. Some visitors try to pass the hole. According to legend, if you can do that, you will be in sound good health. The hole of the pillar is roughly the size of nostril of Great Buddha.

  • Dear Tatsuya,

I have a question for you. At 0:56 people are drinking the water, for a benediction I suppose. But can you take some of this water at home, like we do in church, when it is Christmas or Easter ? Also, it is real gold around the Bouddha at 3:00 ? Very beautiful. Thank you for the two excellents videos *****

    Take care

    Catherine xx ♥

  • @cather333 Dear Catherine,

Thank you so much. (^-^) That water is intended to cleanse hands and a mouth (Okiyome) before going and worshiping. The person of the video drinks, but most people do not drink, and there is not the person taking home that water.

Around the Bouddha was gilded with real gold. The Great Buddha was completed in A.D.751 and was plated with 430 kg of gold. I still don't know well because the history is so long. Have a nice week !!
