I love this engine on the mainline, such a great sound when working.
The lines of south Wales are not very well known to me, so some locations were a bit of pot luck, some you win......others are to overgrown. Planing my day with the aid of google maps (aerial view) and the OS maps, it seemed as though four locations were possible between Bristol and Camarthen, the same for the return plus a couple on the Pembroke branch.
All went well on the outward journey although the popularity of this event meant lots of people coming out to watch and I being the late comer rarley got the best spot - fair enough.
As I waited for the Diesel dragged section near St. Clears and time passed by, I was beginning to think that the tour had been caped at Camarthen. Thankfully this was not so.
On the return leg I had planned four more shots, however the A48 out of Camarthen was at stand still. This put me way behind schedule so I skipped one location and made for what should have been number three 'Stormy bank' only to hear Ollie thunder past as I left the motorway - I cut my losses there and headed home.

Hope you enjoy the film, some of the 'barks' from Ollie are wonderful so turn the volume up :)

  • Thanks to everyone for your comments, hope I can bring you more enjoyable films to watch throughout the year.

  • Watched you film from Car C. Whilst you were standing with your tripod out in the bay towards the end of the vid we were having champagne and four course dinner. Sort of envied you.......

  • ......why?

I had been there the best part of an hour in the drizzle, my feet and tripod slowly sinking into the sand, couldn't have a smoke because my lighter wasn't having any of it. Didn't get to eat until 10:30 when I got home....blah blah

    Nah, I envy you. :-)

  • Excellent video 5* - you compiled some excellent locations. Thanks for sharing! - Mike (One negative comment; by the end the video - the expanding and contracting "copyright" watermark had me reaching for the voodoo doll! LOL!

    Must be the hot weather!)

  • So that's why I got a headache :-)

Yes got to agree it is a bit strong in places.

I'll try something else next time.

  • What an enjoyable video Bill. For pot luck locations you certainly chose well, the last shot for me being best of all. Have you recruited a second cameraman or are they locked off shots using a powerful remote control? Because although they appear to be in the same location, they aren't that close together.

  • Thank you for the compliments, believe me it was more luck than judgment, perhaps I used it all up early, that's why I got stuck in traffic!

Two cameras: It's the latter, locked down but no remote - just left running.
